Pakistan not willing to play Cricket World Cup 2023 in India
Pakistan is scheduled to host the Asia Cup 2023 in the same format before the ODI World Cup 2023 in India later this year. However, India-Pakistan is not willing to play in any country’s venue due to security reasons.
Meanwhile, it has been informed that if India does not go to Pakistan to play the Asia Cup, Pakistan will not go to India to play the World Cup. In that case, Pakistan wants to play their World Cup matches in Bangladesh or elsewhere. PCB Chairman Najam Shetty informed this on an Indian TV channel.
In an interview given to India’s Sports Tak, the PCB Chairman said, “If India does not come to Pakistan, Pakistan will not go to play in India.” It is our decision, our authority’s decision.”
India-Pakistan political conflict is now on all fronts. In no case are the two countries talking to each other. That conflict is now also in sporting events. This year two cricket events are going on in two countries. The war of words is going on over Asia Cup and ICC ODI World Cup.
The BCCI cited the lack of permission from the government to not tour Pakistan to play the Asia Cup. The PCB chairman gave the same excuse in a threatening tone.
He said, “If the BCCI is banned by the Indian government from sending a team to Pakistan, then our (Pakistani) government will also not allow us to play the World Cup in India.”
Pakistan, determined to host the Asia Cup, has proposed a ‘hybrid’ model. Where it is said, India’s matches can be held in UAE as a neutral venue. The remaining matches will be played in Pakistan. However, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka objected to Pakistan’s ‘hybrid’ proposal.
However, if ‘Hybrid’ is implemented in the Asia Cup, Shetty mentioned the same approach in the World Cup. He said, “If there is a ‘hybrid’ model in the Asia Cup, it should be effective in the World Cup as well. We (Pakistan) will play the World Cup matches in Bangladesh or somewhere else. The same model will run in the Champions Trophy as well. The matter is very simple if India agrees to play in Pakistan, we will also go to their country to play the World Cup.”
