There was talk of preparing for the ODI World Cup in India this year by playing the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, the IPL cricketers are becoming tomorrow. New Zealand captain and batsman Kane Williamson has been ruled out of IPL 2023 due to injury and is also uncertain for the ODI World Cup 2023.

Williamson, who played for Gujarat Titans, suffered the injury while fielding against Chennai Super Kings in the IPL opener in Ahmedabad on Friday (March 31). As a result, he is no longer playing in the entire IPL.

The doctors said about the injury received in that match, the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) of Williamson’s right leg was torn. He now has to undergo surgery. Williamson returned to the country after being knocked out of the IPL. He will undergo surgery in three weeks after the knee swelling subsides. However, it takes six months to recover from such injuries after surgery.

Meanwhile, the ODI World Cup on Indian soil is still six months away. In that case, Williamson will have the possibility to play in the World Cup if he recovers before six months. Otherwise, India will have to be out of the team for the World Cup.

“Obviously it’s disappointing to get an injury like that,” said a disappointed Williamson who was ruled out. My main goal now is to get the surgery and start the rehabilitation process. It will take some time.”

He also said. “I will do everything to recover quickly and get back on the field. I will do whatever I need to do in the next few months to help Gary (New Zealand coach Gary Steed) and the team.”
