PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) Management Committee Chairman, Najam Sethi recently revealed that Shahid Khan Afridi and the interim selection committee initially wanted to remove Babar Azam from captaincy.

The PCB management committee appointed former Pakistan captain, Shahid Afridi as the interim chairman of the men’s national selection committee for the home series against New Zealand earlier this year. Other members of the panel were: Abdul Razzaq, Rao Ifthikhar Anjum, and Haroon Rashid (Membership Management Committee).

Speaking to a YouTube channel, Najam Shetty said that the selectors later changed their decision and decided to continue with Babar as captain.

‘I say it again and again. I don’t make such decisions myself. I take advice from people I trust,’ says Sethi.

“When we (the new PCB committee) took over, we had an interim selection committee. Before the selectors came on board, they told us that some changes had to be made and Babar also had to be changed as captain. However, they said that there is no need to transfer Babar after getting the appointment. I told them you can change your mind,’ he added.

After the series against New Zealand, Afridi resigned due to a lack of time. Haroon Rashid was later appointed as the PCB Men’s National Selection Committee Chairman and replaced Afridi.
