Watch Lasith Malinga Four Wickets in Four Balls

Lasith Malinga, on the cusp of his cricketing career, has not yet lost its flavour. He was back on the job in the third t20 match against New Zealand, where he claimed four wickets in four balls to set up Sri Lanka’s three-game T20I win.

Sri Lanka bat first and managed to score 125 runs on the scoreboard. Danushka Gunathilaka gave the host a good start by taking Seth Rance with the new ball. He struck hard to bring back the first limits before left-arm spinner Mitchell Starc provided his first breakthrough.

The wicket opened the doors for New Zealand, with Todd Astle capitalising on the conditions offered to reduce Sri Lanka to 50 for three. But the contributions of the middle order, Niroshan Dickwell and Lahiru Madushanka, helped them to put a challenging total of 125 points on the board.

While many thought, New Zealand would come away with an impressive run, Sri Lanka captain Lasith Malinga had plans in mind. He made a substantial first to put things in order before setting the ground on fire in the third.

Malinga claimed four wickets in four deliveries to wreak havoc in the Black Caps batting order. Meanwhile, this is not the first time Lasith Malinga, 36, has participated in cricket with limited performances. At the 2007 World Cup, he won four wickets in consecutive deliveries against South Africa.

The Slinga Malinga drew Colin Munro’s first blood and better at the third delivery of the third. The right-hand then backed him up with three wickets from the next three balls to send Hamish Rutherford, Colin de Grandhomme and Ross Taylor back to the scale of that flat marker.
