Sri Lankan Cricket Board SLC rejects Niroshan Dickwella NOC for CPL

Sri Lanka Cricket Board SLC denied Niroshan Dickwella a Certificate of No Objection NOC to participate in the current Caribbean Premier League CPL. The board will also prevent the Thisara Perera off-roader from playing in most of the tournament. The board decided ten players, including Perera and Dickwella, refused to tour Pakistan later this month, for security reasons.

“It’s our policy not to give NOC when there’s a national tour, and the players would have known. So Dickwella has not received a NOC and is expected to train with the national team in the coming weeks. We also asked Thisara Parera to return to the country on September 15, 2019, so that she can also join the team at training,” said SLC CEO Ashley de Silva, quoted by ESPN Cricinfo.

Thisara Parera has so far played two matches for Saint Lucia Zouks at the CPL after initially receiving a NOC.

However, his NOC conditioned on availability for Sri Lankan travel. Moreover, now that he has refused to go on a tour of Pakistan, he now has to return to Sri Lanka.

Unlike Thisara, Dickwella has not been awarded a NOC as he had been with the Sri Lankan T20 team for the series against New Zealand last week.

Dickwella and Thisara were among the ten players who refused to tour Pakistan despite assurances from Sri Lankan security experts.

Sri Lankan players, however, have suggested that they would prefer another team to take the lead to help international cricket return to Pakistan.

Back In 2009, there was an attack on the Lankan team in Lahore, and after that, international tours to the country stopped.

Suranga Lakmal, from the current list of Sri Lankan players, had been caught up in that attack.
