Sri Lanka ODI Captain Dimuth Karunarate Not Willing to Tour Pakistan
ODI Current Captain of Sri Lanka Dimuth Karunarate Not Willing to tour Pakistan for the next limited series either year. According to a Sri Lankan newspaper, Karunaratne has already announced its apprehensions regarding the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) tour. Sri Lanka captain Twenty20 (T20), Lasith Malinga, is also expected to follow Karunaratne’s example and return to the tour.
The newspaper also claimed that the SLC approved the tour to Pakistan without consulting the highest-ranking players. Sri Lankan players are concerned about the length of the tour, as no other international team has remained in Pakistan for so long for a decade.
However, SLC wants to be joined by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for sending its under-19 team to the island after the recent bombings in Colombo.
On the other hand, SLC officials are confident that they will be able to convince players to travel to Pakistan and have held a meeting to listen to players’ concerns in this regard on 9 September.
Sri Lankan Sports Minister Harin Fernando also assured players that he would travel with them himself to quell his fears regarding the tour.
Previously, the PCB and SLC had announced exchange of split-series matches in Pakistan, meaning that ODI and T20Is will now be played from September 27 to October 9, while testing will conduct in December.
According to the PCB press release, Pakistan was scheduled to host Sri Lanka for two World Test Championship matches in October before Sri Lanka returns by three ODIs and three T20Is at the end of December.
The decision to exchange matches is to make after a telephone discussion between PCB President Ehsan Mani and SLC President Shammi Silva.
