Siri Lanka VS South Africa CWC19 Match 35 Result
South Africa won the toss and elected to bowl first in the 35th match of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.
Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis helped South Africa defeat Sri Lanka by a nine-time. A blow to the Asians’ hopes of reaching the semi-finals of the World Cup. Amla and captain Du Plessis scored 175 runs for the second wicket partnership. Sri Lanka struggled after defeats to New Zealand and Australia and two qualifiers before resuming their World Cup chances with a stunning victory over England.
But with six points from seven matches, the 1996 champions have now fallen behind England, Bangladesh, and Pakistan in the race to qualify from the round-robin phase. Sri Lanka’s strike dropped them in the face of an inspired South African attack inspired by recalled fashion designer Dwaine Pretorius, who reported 3-25 of his 10 outs.
Chris Morris also finished with three wickets while spearhead Kagiso Rabada took two. Sri Lanka had a disastrous start to the match Dimuth Karunaratne, was caught by Du Plessis on the first ball of the match.
Kusal Perera and Avishka Fernando beat the score to make it 67 for a 10th. Before Fernando (30) made a shot error and sent the ball into the air before Du Plessis took his shot. Perera was next to follow, slashing a delivery of Pretorius on his stumps as Sri Lanka slipped to 72-3. Angelo Mathews was beaten by Morris for 11 and Kusal Mendis went for 23.
A swarm of bees briefly interrupted play towards the end of the innings, forcing players and referees to lie flat on the floor. Veteran paceman Lasith Malinga hit fifth in South Africa’s innings. Quinton de Kock bowled for 15 minutes, but it was only a minor hiccup. Amla and Du Plessis took control by mixing the right dose of caution and aggression to mitigate the opposition’s attack.
