Shoaib Malik Wants Entire PSL 2020 in Pakistan
Pakistani all-rounder Shoaib Malik is looking forward to competing in the fifth edition of Habib Bank Limited’s (HBL) Pakistan Super League (PSL 2020) on home soil.
“The feeling of playing in front of your audience is second to none. We were unlucky not to be able to play a lot of cricket in our backyard. But, fortunately, the decision to have the entire PSL play in Pakistan has been made, and I can’t wait to play in front of the packed crowd,” Malik said. “This is not only about cricketers, but also about hungry fans of high-level cricket. I hope they enjoy it.”
Malik also spoke about the areas Pakistan needs to work on, bearing in mind the 2020 T20 World Cup.
“I think we are currently a very good T20 team. Few problems, I suppose, could be beatings with the new ball. The wicket in T20 cricket is the key, so someone who can hit the ball would be ideal,” he said. “Shaheen Shah Afridi was sensational at the 2019 World Cup and I think he has the potential to do something similar for us here too.”
Malik confirmed his retirement from cricket one day after the conclusion of Pakistan’s 2019 World Cup campaign. Malik had admitted last year his intention to leave cricket a day after the World Cup and he followed through on that plan after Pakistan’s 94-point victory over Bangladesh in their last World Cup match in the group stage. The 37-years-old will continue to play In Twenty20.
