Shoaib Malik Returns to T20 World Cup 2021 Squad as he Replaces Sohaib Maqsood

Pakistan has reshuffled its squad for the World Twenty20 in the United Arab Emirates. Shoaib Malik, who is experienced and in form, returns to T20 World Cup 2021 squad for the second round. On the other hand, Shoiab Malik replaces Shoaib Maqsood has been dropped from the World Cup squad due to a back injury.

According to the ICC rules, the teams participating in the World Cup will be able to change the squad announced till Sunday (October 10). Pakistan took advantage of that opportunity to change the announced squad. Less than a day after the change brought in the first phase, Pakistan brought change again.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said in a press release on Saturday (October 9th). It is said that Shoaib Maqsood has been dropped from the 2021 World Cup due to a back injury. Shoaib Malik has been included in the team instead.

PCB chief selector Muhammad Wasim said Shoaib Maqsood had suffered because he was dropped from the T20 World Cup because he had worked hard for the World Cup and was in good form. After making three changes in the first phase after the announcement of the squad, the PCB did not take Shoaib Malik. Despite making changes to the team based on the performance of the domestic tournament National T20 Cup, the owner could not catch the eye of the selectors. However, India’s son-in-law Shoaib Malik was called up to the World Cup squad after Shoaib Maqsood studied in injury. The chief selector of the PCB also spoke about taking another Shoaib to the team as one Shoaib slipped due to injury.

“After discussions with the team management, we have decided to include Shoaib Malik in his (Shoaib Maqsood’s) place,” he said. I am sure that Shoaib Malik’s experience will be useful for the whole team.

Shoaib Malik was the captain of the Pakistan cricket team in the inaugural edition of the 2007 Twenty20 World Cup. Besides, he is an experienced cricketer of the country.

Pakistan will start its World Cup journey on October 24 with a match against arch-rivals India. Earlier, the Pakistan cricket team will leave for Dubai, the United Arab Emirates on October 15.
