Shikhar Dhawan as important as Kohli or Rohit, Says Harbhajan Singh

India veteran Harbhajan Singh feels that Shikhar Dhawan contribution to the Indian team in white-ball cricket is as essential as of captain Virat Kohli or his deputy Rohit Sharma. Opening Batsmen Dhawan returns to the Indian team after being injured during the World Cup. India will face South Africa in the second T20 in Mohali after the former razed in Dharamsala.

“Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma are some of the best hitters India has ever seen, and have proven to be one of India’s top opening pairs. Shikhar Dhawan’s contribution to the game is as important as that of Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli,” Star Sports expert Harbhajan said.

“Whether it’s T20 or 50 over, regardless of the format, Shikhar is excellent. According to me, there is no better opener than Shikhar Dhawan, along with Rohit Sharma, in any format: T20 and 50 over. If you continue to work on your fitness over the next 2-3 years, I think you will be unstoppable,” he added.

Irfan Pathan on Ravindra Jadeja

Meanwhile, former Indian player Irfan Pathan said Ravindra Jadeja is a quality back-up all-rounder for India and that, in the absence of Hardik Pandya, he can do a good job.

“Ravindra Jadeja’s inflows have been crucial at the IPL and the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup. We have to keep this in mind because Hardik Pandya is a fast-bowling all-rounder and they tend to get injured,” said Pathan, Star’s sports expert.

“India needs to have a back-up all-terrain that can replace Hardik and play at its caliber. We should get Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja to play in sixth place, and I’m sure they’ll do the job.

“Jadeja is one of the team’s best all-in-field, whose on-field capabilities, bowling and batting are remarkable. He is a brilliant cricketer and has shown several times.”

Since the first match of the three-match T20 series suspended due to rain, both teams would try to do their best in Mohali, as they know the winner will not lose the rubber. With the stakes so high, therefore, there is not much room for error on the part of either team.

The Blue Men would be brimming with confidence after their excellent spectacle against the West Indies on their recent tour. India was utterly ruthless against the West Indies, with only the rain denying them a clean sweep of the Test, ODI and T20 series contested between the two teams.

On the other hand, Quinton de Kock will expect to raise morale for the Proteas, which would be the bottom piece behind his lousy performance in England at the World Cup.
