Shahid Afridi Picks His Favorite Players of Current Era
Veteran Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi held a question-and-answer session with his fans on Twitter on Thursday. And while answering them, Shahid Afridi Picks His favorite players of the current era. During the #AskLala session, a fan asked Afridi to name his favourite batsman and the 44-year-old called the four batsmen who are among the most dominant in contemporary world cricket.
Afridi was quick to name Indian skipper Kohli at the top of his list of top four batsmen. Alongside Kohli, the legendary all-rounder mentioned Pakistan’s batsman Babar Azam, England skipper Joe Root and former Australian captain Steve Smith. Fans questioned Afridi’s top four players as many discussed the blindness of New Zealand captain Kane Williamson, who they said should be on the list.
Virat Kohli lost his first place to Steve Smith in the Tests, but his form is also consistent. After a World Cup without centuries, he recently beat two ODIs twice against the West Indies and scored three fifties in his last five international rounds (two in Tests and one in T20I).
Root was criticised for his position as captain in the recently concluded Ashes, although he didn’t hurt too much with the bat. In five tests, Root has reached four half-centuries.
Babar Azam is the best batsman in Pakistan, although he has not yet reached his potential. With 11 hundred international players to his credit, Azam is the 16th best test batsman, but the third in the ODIs and the first in the T20I.
