Rupa Gurunath to be the New President of TNCA
The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association, TNCA established September 26 for the coronation of Rupa Gurunath as the new president of the state unit. The last date to submit the nomination is September 25, but the 16 title holders are ready to be elected unopposed. Rupa, who will become the first female president of the state unit, is the daughter of former TNCA head, BCCI and ICC, N. Srinivasan.
Mr Damodaren, a nemesis of Srinivasan, has acknowledged that there will be no opposition on your part. Damodaran owns three TNCA-affiliated league clubs. “As far as I know, Rupa is an efficient woman, so I’ve decided to support her candidacy,” Damodaren said.
At an executive committee meeting on Sunday, members informally focused on the names of the various posts. RS Ramaswamy of Salem, KA Shankar of Eagle Club, J. Parthasarathy and N. Venkataraman are ready to be part of the Rupa team.
Rupa’s entry was no surprise as his name has been hovering around since Srinivasan left office in 2017 following the recommendations of the Lodha Committee. Rupa’s husband, Guruanth Meiyappan, the former director of the Chennai Super Kings’ contaminated team, banned for life by the BCCI for his betting participation during the 2013 IPL.
Meanwhile, the TNCA has appointed Mr Chandrasekaran, former state election commissioner, as the returning officer.
The total number of voters is 202, of which 150 are city-based league clubs. Up to 30 districts and 22 former international cricketers (including women) are eligible to vote.
