PHF plans to host five-person tournament in August

Secretary-General, – Pakistan Hockey Federation PHF, Asif Bajwa said they plan to host a five-person tournament in August. Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Bajwa said he received letters from the International Hockey Federation (FIH) asking him to resume hockey activities. Following the letter, PHF is currently working on the development of a standard operating procedure (SoP) in order to resume its activities.

“We started planning to resume hockey activities in the country after receiving a green signal from the FIH. International hockey had already started with Germany taking on Belgium in the Pro League, “he said.

“We are looking forward to hosting a five-player tournament in August. But before that, we will write letters to the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) and the Provincial Sports Boards to mentor the SoPs, ”he added.

Meanwhile, Bajwa stressed the importance of the five-player format in order to move on to the modern game. “The format of five is very interesting and involves a lot of players. The FIH will host a five-a-side Hockey World Cup in 2023, which means that the value of the format has grown in such a short time, “he said.

On the other hand, Bajwa confirmed that PHF will pay 30,000 / – each to 30 players as a COVID-19 pandemic allowance. “We screened 30 players after consulting with coaches who will receive 30,000 – each as a COVID-19 pandemic allowance. The amount will be paid directly into the players’ accounts, ”he concluded.
