PCB might appoint Shoaib Akhtar as a Chief Selector
Former Pakistan star pacer Shoaib Akhtar has confirmed that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) wants to give him a bigger role. According to Pakistani media reports, PCB might appoint Shoaib Akhtar as a Chief Selector.
Former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq has been criticized as head coach and selector. During his tenure, Pakistan’s fragile performance increased the pressure on Misbah. This criticism has multiplied after only one win (T20) in England tour.
Former Pakistan speed star Shoaib Akhtar, popularly known as the Rawalpindi Express, said talks with the PCB were ongoing. And he is keen to work for the good of Pakistan.
“I will not deny it,” said Shoaib Akhtar on Thursday. Yes, I have talked to the board. And I look forward to playing a bigger role in Pakistan. However, nothing has been finalized yet.
Shoaib added, ‘I live a comfortable life. I used to play cricket like myself, but now I’m fine. I came out of the comfort zone ready to work for the PCB. I will give time to the opportunity.
Shoaib wants to create an aggressive mentality among cricketers when given the opportunity. Shoaib said, ‘I am ready to jump into the fire. I will do this because I want to build a pool of cricketers who will forget the fear of failure with an aggressive mentality.
“We need cricketers whose mindset is like great Javed Miandad, Wasim Akram, Mushtaq Mohammad.”
Incidentally, in September 2019, Misbah-ul-Haq was given the dual responsibility (in three formats) of Pakistan’s head coach and chief selector, on a three-year contract. Shoaib Akhtar has played 48 Tests, 183 ODIs, and 15 T20Is for Pakistan. Shoaib took 18, 246, and 19 wickets in three formats.
