Afghanistan won the toss and elected to bat first in the 36th match of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

Match Summary:

Pakistan kept the courage by beating Afghan team by three wickets with just two balls to spare and maintain their hopes in the World Cup 2019 semi-finals. Imad Wasim hit Afghan skipper Gulbadin Naib to allow him to cross the covers and seal the victory of the fourth ball of the last backhand, causing an invasion of the pitch. Pakistan, chasing a modest target of 228 runs, was in serious danger at 156, but Imad and Shadab Khan placed 50 runs for the seventh wicket to revive their hopes.

The win puts Pakistan in fourth place in the 10-team standings, ahead of England after the poor start to the tournament. Pakistan was in big trouble when their captain, Sarfaraz Ahmed, was eliminated for 18 runs while making an unnecessary second set, leaving Pakistan 72 runs from the last 11 overs. They took Naib away at the 46th goal, bringing the target down to 28 out of four. Shadab was out of eleven with a score of 206 but Wahab Riaz and Imad saw Pakistan go home and condemned Afghanistan to an eighth consecutive defeat.
