New Zealand Retires Jersey No 11

On November 29, 2017, the BCCI had unofficially removed its No. 10 as a sign of respect for the achievements of Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar. In September, fans were furious to see fashion designer Shardul Thakur sporting the iconic number on his jersey. After this incident in Sri Lanka, he was seen wearing the number 54 on his back during a few pre-seasons matches.

Almost two years later, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has dropped the jersey no 11 of legend Daniel Vettori in honor of the former Kiwi captain. The NZC will remove the jerseys of all cricketers who have represented New Zealand in more than 200 IDOs. “Players who represent New Zealand in 200 ODIs have their jersey number set up. Daniel Vettori, who wore the number 11, played the most ODI for BLACKCAPS with 291 ODIs”.
