Multan Sultans Qualify for the PSL 7 Play-Offs

PSL 2022: Multan Sultans beat Peshawar Zalmi in the 16th Match of the PSL 2022 and Qualified for the PSL 7 Play-Offs. Pakistan Super League (PSL) team Multan Sultans defeated Peshawar Zalmi by 42 runs in their 16th match to qualify for the Play-offs.

Zalmi’s batting line-up flopped miserably when asked to chase down 183, scoring 140 all out. As the other batters walked back to the pavilion after scoring cheaply, only veteran Shoaib Malik fought back with a 44. In the sixth inning, Zalmi’s returning English explosive batsman, Liam Livingstone, too fought back, but he too fell short to Abbas Afridi. Fast 24 from 16 balls, with four boundaries and one six.

Blessing Muzarabani and Khushdil Shah each got three wickets for the Sultans, while Shahnawaz Dahani claimed two for the opposition in the first innings. However, Imran Tahir and Abbas both had one strikeout to their name.

Batting first, the team got off to a great start thanks to the partnership of Shan Masood and Mohammad Rizwan for the second wicket, which amounted to 98 runs. Wahab Riaz, his Zalmi rival, took the wicket of the skipper in the 13th over, who was failing to get going. Only a run-a-ball 34 could be scored by the in-form hitter.

However, the Sultans’ highest run-scorer in the PSL 7 went on to score a superb half-century as Masood stood firm and kept the clock ticking. But he, too, stepped back to the pavilion after a miscued Salman Irshad delivery in the 16th over of the match. He smashed eight boundaries and a six in a 68-ball innings with a total of 49 balls.

A succession of wickets fell after he left, and the team was eventually reduced to 182-7 in the allocated 20 overs. In spite of Tim David’s rapid 34 down the order, however, the Sultans were unable to compile a large total due to a lower order collapse in the final two overs. Only 18 pitches were thrown to the right-handed hitter, but he smashed five hits, including three sixes. Wahab, Salman, and Saqib Mahmood each took two wickets for the Zalmi in their match against the Multan Sultans.
