Mahmudullah Riyad Ruled Out of T20 World Cup 2021 Warm-Up Match

Mahmudullah Riyad Ruled Out of T20 World Cup 2021 Warm-Up Match

Bangladesh cricket team is going to play the first official warm-up match against Sri Lanka ahead of the T20 World Cup 2021. However, captain Mahmudullah Riyad has been ruled out from the first T20 World Cup 2021 Warm-up match as he is being rested as his back pain has not completely healed. The question is, will Mahmudullah be able to play in the World Cup match after only one week?

The Tigers’ warm-up match against Sri Lanka will start at 8pm on Tuesday (October 12) in Abu Dhabi. The team management is not taking any risk with Mahmudullah as his back pain has not completely healed.

Captain Mahmudullah Riyad did not play an unofficial warm-up match against Oman ‘A’ team on October 6 (Friday) due to back pain. Three days after that match, he is not playing in the first official warm-up match on Tuesday (October 12).

Mahmudullah Riyad’s continued rest has raised questions about how much he is actually injured. Will the Tiger captain be able to play their first match in the first round of the World Cup on Sunday (October 16) after four days? Or Bangladesh will play against Scotland without him.

Bangladesh’s other two opponents in the first round are hosts Oman and Papua New Guinea. The Bangladesh cricket team will play against Oman on October 19 and Papua New Guinea on October 21.

Tigers selector Habibul Bashar said he wanted to give Mahmudullah as much rest as possible before the start of the tournament. Because, when the tournament starts, there will not be a chance to rest. However, he said Mahmudullah was not worried about Riyad’s pain.

“There is not much to worry about,” Bashar said. Riyad has mild back pain. There is not much of a chance to rest when the main game starts. There is one match after another. That is why we are not taking any risks. He may also be rested for the warm-up match. He is an experienced cricketer, I will try to prepare before the match with a little rest.

Meanwhile, Mushfiqur Rahim, an experienced Tigers cricketer, did not get a run against Oman ‘A’ team. Besides, the bats of Afif Hossain Dhruv and Soumya Sarkar were also in drought. However, the big test for them was in the two warm-up matches before the World Cup.

The selectors have to think about the opening pair in the World Cup without the Tigers’ dashing opener Tamim Iqbal. In the meantime, if captain Mahmudullah Riyad is dropped from the World Cup match, Bangladesh will face new fears. However, Shakib Al Hasan and cutter master Mostafizur Rahman are in good form playing in the IPL.
