Losing doesn’t matter as long as the team shows character, Says Lasith Malinga
Sri Lanka, which had set a target of 162-runs, lost to New Zealand by four wickets on Tuesday. Captain Lasith Malinga has said losing matters as long as his team showed character after New Zealand defeated Sri Lanka in the second T20I match on Tuesday.
“We did our best. All the young people gave everything, and we got a decent score. We still fought hard, but we weren’t lucky at those crucial moments. Happy with the cricket brand we’ve played, and that’s how I want the team to play in the future,” Malinga said, quoting ICC.
“We want to give young people the freedom to play their natural game, they’re learning to play T20, and I want young players to show that they’re made for international cricket. Losing doesn’t matter as long as the team shows its character. “Of course, we want to win [the final game], but we also want to test our strength in banking,” the pacemaker added.
With this victory, New Zealand secured the three-match T20I series after beating Sri Lanka in the first T20I on 1 September. Both sides will play the third T20I on 6 September.
