Virat Kohli supported me during the financial crisis, says Indian Tennis player Sumit Nagal
Over the years, India’s cricket team captain Virat Kohli has shown his love and support for other sports disciplines and the running machine is back in the headlines for helping and supported the tennis player Sumit Nagal. Nagal took centre stage after impressing Roger Federer in the first round of the U.S. Open. Sumit has revealed that he received financial support from Kohli during critical moments.
Nagal said he was facing problems as he only had six dollars while flying from Canada to Germany, but it was Kohli who helped him and support him during a difficult time.
“The founding of Virat Kohli has been supporting me since 2017. I haven’t performed well for the last two years and was facing a financial crisis. If I hadn’t had Virat Kohli support me, I don’t know what I would have done,” Times of India said quoting Sumit.
“Earlier this year, when I was flying from Canada to Germany after a tournament, I had six dollars in my wallet… just six bucks after the help I was getting, so imagine what a mess I must have been before. However, I survived, and things are getting better. If people fund athletes, it will only help the sport thrive in the country. I’m lucky enough to get that support from Virat,” he added.
Sumit had entered the US Open at the back of a great show on the Challenger Circuit. Between April and June this year, Sumit played eight tournaments on the Challenger Circuit and sealed a place in the semi-finals in five of them, as well as reaching the quarter-finals in one that gave him 170 points. After this, Sumit entered the top 200 in the rankings for the first time in his career.
