India Wants to Host More Upcoming ICC Events
The Board of Control for Cricket in India BCCI wants to host more International Cricket Council ICC events after 2023. A BCCI official told Indian media about the interest.
The T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates was to be held on Indian soil. However, due to the increasing incidence of the corona, it will now be held in Oman and the United Arab Emirates. However, India is in charge of organizing the entire event.
India will host the 2023 ODI World Cup after the T20 World Cup in Australia in 2022. The BCCI is planning to host more ICC tournaments in India after the ODI World Cup.
The BCCI official said, “After the 2023 World Cup, we are trying to organize more ICC competitions in India. If all goes well, our plan will be sent to the ICC.
“The BCCI wants to host at least three ICC tournaments on Indian soil in the next eight years,” he said. BCCI president Sourav Ganguly will present his wishes at the ICC meeting.
The ICC had planned to have several more competitions in men’s cricket. The ICC wants to bring back the eight-team Champions Trophy. The men’s T20 World Cup is played between 16 teams. The ICC plans to host the tournament with 20 teams in the future.
Besides, the last World Cup of 50 overs has been held with 10 teams. However, in 2026 and 2031 it will be increased to 14 teams, the ICC said. The 50-over World Cup to be held in India in 2023 will be for 10 teams.
