Siri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first in the 44th match of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

Match Summary:

Rohit Sharma became the first player to score five centuries in a single World Cup edition. As India beat Siri Lanka by seven wickets in their last group match. India’s semi-finalists chased their goal of 265 in 43.3 overs to end the group stage with seven wins, one loss and one drop out. Sharma’s first partner, KL Rahul, had the most points with 111 as the pair conceded 189 points for the first wicket that would put India in full control.

Rohit Sharma reached his goal with a four off Kasun Rajitha to surpass the mark set by Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara. Kumar Sangakkara scored four centuries at the World Cup 2015 tournament. His century came out of 92 balls, with 14 fours and two sixes. Sharma was fired a short time later, taken by Angelo Mathews at Rajitha’s bowling alley.

Known as ‘hitman’, Sharma leads the current World Cup standings with 647 points in eight matches. He is only the fourth batsman after Sachin Tendulkar, Matthew Hayden, and Shakib Al Hasan to score more than 600 points in a single World Cup. Tendulkar, India’s all-time international record, tweeted his congratulations for Sharma.
