India VS England CWC19 Match 38 Result

England won the toss and elected to bat first in the 38th match of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

Match Summary:

Jonny Bairstow scored a hundred before Chris Woakes took center stage. As England ended India’s unbeaten run at this World Cup with a 31 runs victory on Sunday. Again leaving their semi-final qualifiers own hands. England, who played in successive defeats to Sri Lanka and Australia, will be assured of being in the last four if they beat New Zealand in their final group match on Wednesday.

India can reach the knockout stage by beating Bangladesh on their return to Edgbaston on Tuesday. England’s bid to win a first World Cup title was based on an aggressive first-rate batting strike, but the tracks had dried up recently. That made them 337-7 after captain Eoin Morgan won the throw on a good throw in Birmingham all the more encouraging. Bairstow was the top scorer with 111 runs and Ben Stokes added a 79. While Indian paceman Mohammed Shami set a record 5-69.

No team has scored more than a second in batting to win a World Cup match than the Irish 329-7 against England in Bangalore in 2011. The title contenders, India, were not up to the task as their pursuit ended 306-5. Indian captain Virat Kohli defended his team’s pursuit by saying: Each team has lost a game or two here and there. No one likes to lose, but we have to keep up. India was a long way from the opening match, KL Rahul had been caught and pushed by Woakes. He had managed a duck thanks to an impressive three consecutive girls with the new ball on his pitch.

Rohit Sharma, Rahul’s first partner, should have fallen for four, but Joe Root dropped a routine second slip catch against fast thrower Jofra Archer. This could be costly, and Sharma would move to 102, his third-century of the tournament. Sharma also shared the second stand of 138 with Kohli but Kohli fell when he cut Liam Plunkett back.

Man of the Match Award:

Jonny Bairstow was awarded as man of the match award for his amazing hundred.
