Hafeez gets into trouble after violating biosecurity protocols
The Pakistan Cricket Board is furious with former captain Muhammad Hafeez as he puts himself in trouble after violating the biosecurity protocols imposed by the England and Wales Cricket Board for the current series.
The former captain, who is not part of the test team, is there for the limited-overs stage.
On Wednesday, Hafeez tweeted a photo of himself with an elderly woman from the golf course adjacent to the team’s hotel despite strict instructions that they should not interact with anyone outside the bubble.
A source close to the Pakistan team said that the violation of Hafeez’s protocol had upset everyone, as all players had been specifically told to avoid interaction with anyone outside the biosecurity bubble, as the field is open to the public in Southampton.
Hafeez got into trouble when he tweeted of him and the lady calling her inspiring.
The ECB medical team is aware of the protocol violation and most likely Hafeez will have to isolate himself for five days and then undergo two negative Covid-19 tests before rejoining the team.
Hafeez was one of the players who tested positive before traveling to England but then created an embarrassing situation for the PCB when he was tested privately and the result was negative, which he posted on his Twitter account.
He returned two more negative tests before he was allowed to travel to the UK.
The ECB is taking any breaches of biosecurity protocol very seriously and fast pitcher Joffra Archer was also reprimanded and abandoned for the second test against the West Indies after he also burst the biosecurity bubble by going to his apartment in Brighton.
Hafeez, a veteran off-roader, has also gotten into trouble in the past with his statements about cricket and the Pakistan national team.
