Grant Flower Opens Up About Politics in Pakistan Team
Controversy and Pakistani cricket go hand in hand. There has not been a single coach from recent memory who has completed his tenure with Pakistan without facing controversy or who has left the team on good terms. Former Zimbabwe batsman Grant Flower is the latest coach to face the same situation.
Grant Flower opened his coaching experience in Pakistan for five years. Unsurprisingly, his revelation had surprising claims. The Zimbabwean legend explained how difficult it is to coach the Pakistani team as he talked about the team’s politics and the stabbings of former players.
“A few stab wounds to the back of former players. And much of the politics that is going on within the television channels, journalists and the politics of the CCP itself. I certainly won’t miss them,”
At the same time, Grant Flower is full of praise for the players being so passionate about playing for Pakistan.
“The passion of the players and the natural flair and their love of the game. It was a nice thing to see as they have a lot to gain by playing for Pakistan and a lot to lose by not playing. It’s so important to them and their families”.
Flower also stated that Babar Azam was certainly the best Pakistani he had ever coached. Flower wished the Pakistani fans all the best for the future and asked them to continue to give their support and passion.
“I just want to wish them the best for the future and support and excite him, which they already are. And have faith. Trust the players and stay behind them. Look for the positives as well as the negatives”.
Grant Flower had been part of the Pakistan team since 2014. Before the Pakistan Cricket Board decided not to renew his contract. During Flower’s last mission, Pakistan left the World Cup in the group stage where men in green finished fifth in the points table.
