England won the toss and elected to bowl first in the 19th match of World Cup 2019.

Match Summary

England beats West Indies by 8 wickets and claims the second place on the points table. As the batting line up of west indies collapse and they only manage to give the target of 213 runs. Joe Root marked his second World Cup century as England crushed the West Indies by eight wickets with 16.5 overs to spare. The captain Root found himself alongside Jonny Bairstow in place of the injured Jason Roy, who had left the field limping with a tight hamstring during the West Indies inning.

Shannon Gabriel had Bairstow taken by Carlos Brathwaite for 45, leaving England at 95-1, but Chris Woakes quickly took off. Previously, England did contain the West Indies, but at a cost, with Roy and captain Eoin Morgan limping from the field.  The Caribbean never managed to mount a sustained attack on the English bowlers. After Woakes and Jofra Archer conceded only eight points from the first five relays of the match. Powered by three wickets each for Archer and Mark Wood, England sent back their opponents with more than five overshoots to spare.

Opener Chris Gayle, dropped early by Wood, briefly threatened. Nicholas Pooran and Hetmyer combined to give up 89 points for the fourth wicket before Root struck twice. Clinging to his own bowling game to eliminate Hetmyer and Holder. At the 40th over, Morgan left the field, struggling to climb the steps of the pavilion and it was later confirmed that he had had a spasm on his back. Wood finished with 3-18, while Archer took 3 wickets for 30 runs.
