The T20I series between England and Sri Lanka will begin on Wednesday in Cardiff (June 23). While the first two matches of the series will be held at Cardiff’s Sophia Gardens, the third T20I will be held in Southampton’s Ageas Bowl.
England’s previous T20I series against India ended in a 3-2 defeat. It will be fascinating to watch if Eoin Morgan’s side can recover and win the series against Sri Lanka. Based on the strengths and limitations of the two teams, the home team will start as the favorite to win this series.
Following a 0-1 loss in the Test series against New Zealand, England will face Sri Lanka at home. The T20I series against Kusal Perera and Co begins at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on Wednesday, June 23.
The Three Lions played India in a thrilling T20I series earlier this year, but they lost the series 2-3 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. However, being the top-ranked T20I team in the world, the British are likely to start as favorites against the Lankans, who are ranked seventh in the ICC T20I team rankings.
Despite the fact that both sides have thrown punches in equal amounts in the past, England appears to have the upper hand at the moment. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, can take solace from the fact that they have defeated the British in three of the four T20Is they have played at home.
Sri Lanka lost a three-match T20I series to the 10th-ranked West Indies in March. In the meantime, Jonny Bairstow suffered an ankle sprain during the T20 Blast, causing alarm in the English camp. He has been cleared of major damage following scans on Thursday, however, he is doubtful for the first T20I of the three-match series.
