Disappointing End to World Cup Semi-Final says Virat Kohli
You’re always disappointed when you’ve played such good cricket and then 45 minutes of bad cricket gets you out of the tournament, Kohli said. The Indian Skipper visibly gunned down after his team’s surprising 18-run loss in the first semi-final of the World Cup 2019 against New Zealand here at Old Trafford on Wednesday.
It’s hard to accept, it’s hard to come to an agreement, but look, New Zealand deserves it enough because they put enough pressure on us and they were much sharper when it comes to the tough times, Virat Kohli said.
India had restricted New Zealand to 239runs in the rain-hit game and, according to the score indicator; there were 98 percent chances of the favorites to earn a place in Sunday’s final.
I think in the first half, we were very, very good with the ball. On the field, I think we were right but we could not handle the pressure, Virat said.
Absolutely what we needed to get, we got in the field and thought we had restricted New Zealand to a total that was quite difficult to locate on any surface. But, the way they went out and played that first half hour was really the difference in the game.
We knew we had a good day yesterday and we were very proud of that effort. So we felt that we had the impetus and we had the right mindset to get in, but the credit has to go to the New Zealand bowlers because with the new ball I think they were outstanding with the areas they hit and the kind of swing they got in surface, the help they got from the pitch. I think it’s the level of skill that was shown to everyone and that made life very difficult for hitters.”
Ravindra Jadeja, a sign of hope, provided India with a hope to win, which hit 77-runs in 59-ball after the Indians were reduced to 24-4 in first 10 over power-play.
I think Jaddu played very well to help India reach the target. The way he played today was a great sign for his skills and what he can do for the team, and goes out so clearly and turns the whole game around at one point he couldn’t see it. MS had a good association with him again and, you know, again it’s a game of margins, in the end, it sold out, it could have been anybody’s game.
Sometimes I think our shot selection could have been better, it’s probably the only thing I can think of, Kohli said. Otherwise, we play a very good cricket brand and we are very proud of the way we compete in this tournament. You know, we play at a good level of cricket everywhere. But as I said, come to the knockouts, it’s everyone’s game and New Zealand showed more composure than us, and they were braver in those difficult situations, so they deserve to move on to the final.
