Cricket World Cup 2023 Qualifiers Schedule
With the 2019 World Cup over, the cricket world is now preparing for the next World Cup in 2023. And before the mega-event, the International Cricket Council (ICC) paved the way for the tournament. The next edition of the World Cup, which will be the thirteenth edition, will be held in India.
League 2 will play 126 ODIs in 21 tri-series, a four-year qualifying structure. League 2 is just a stone’s throw from the next World Cup. It’s below the Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League. League 2 will face seven teams – Namibia, Nepal, Oman, Papua New Guinea (PNG), Scotland, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States – vying for the main prize. Each of the seven teams will play 36 IDOs over a two-and-a-half-year period, from August 2019 to January 2022.
Scotland, PNG, and Oman will play the inaugural series from August 14-21 at Mannofield Park. It includes four ODIs for each, worth 2 points per ODI, which will contribute to the CWC Men’s League 2 draw. The top three teams will confirm their place in the 2022 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup qualifier.
In contrast, the last four teams will qualify for the 2022 Men’s Cricket World Cup qualifiers – which will be a Global Qualifier repackage event – and will be joined by Challenge League A and B winners. The teams participating in the play-offs will keep alive their hopes of competing in India 2023 by qualifying for the 2022 Cricket World Cup. Chris Tetley, head of events at the ICC, expressed his enthusiasm for the prospect of four years of competitive men’s cricket.
“The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup provided us with competitive entertainment and cricket. I am delighted to see the start of the qualification process for India 2023. The new structure has given a significant context to bilateral cricket for the World Men’s Cricket Super League, but also more competitive opportunities for associate members,” he said.
