Cricket West Indies CWI Player of the Year Awards

Jason Holder, captain of the West Indies Test and ODI team, was named Cricket West Indies (CWI) Player of the Year award. Jason Holder won the prestigious award for an outstanding all-round performance last year. He scored 336 points for West Indies in 2018 and also picked up 33 wickets last year.

Earlier this year, he led the West Indies to a monumental victory over England. In January, he imitated Sir Garry Sobers by reaching first place among the competitors in the ICC test rankings. Holder played with the bat and the ball against England. He scored an unbeaten double in Barbados and became only the third man to finish 8th or less to score a test double. In two Tests, he also picked up seven wickets at an average of 17.85.

Shai Hope won Cricket West Indies ODI Player of the Year award, while Keemo Paul was named Cricket West Indies T2OI Player of the Year award. Hope scored 875 points for the team in THE ODI format in 2018, while Keemo Paul scored 124 points and took 17 gates in 2018 in the T20I format. Pacer Oshane Thomas was named Cricket West Indies Emerging Player of the Year award.

Versatile player Andre Russell has been named The Cricket West Indies Caribbean T20 Player of the Year award. Deandra Dottin was named Player of the Year by the CWI Women T20 and ODI. She scored 114 points and took 12 wickets in the 50-plus format in 2018. She recorded 149 points and scalped 16 wickets in the shortest format of the game.

The West Indies are currently preparing for the next two-match try-out series against world number one India. The series between India Vs West Indies will begin on August 22 in Antigua. The West Indies have not won a game against India so far. They lost the T20I series 3-0 before conceding 2-0 to the ODI. Hosts, however, should face a major challenge in testing.
