Chennai is not playing in the opening match of IPL 2020
Before the start of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), three-time champions Chennai Super Kings suffered a major blow. According to Indian media, Chennai is not playing in the opening match of IPL 2020, the schedule is changing.
Chennai Super Kings have already reached the United Arab Emirates ahead of the 13th edition of the IPL. According to the IPL authorities and the UAE’s quarantine protocol, the corona test will be conducted between and at the end of the 7-day compulsory quarantine. And the disaster happened during that test.
Friday’s test revealed more than 10 people were infected, while another was reported infected on Saturday. Where a total of 13 people have been reported infected. Among the 13 are two Indian cricketers. They are pacer Deepak Chahar and Rituraj Gaikwad.
Chennai has extended the quarantine deadline after so many players and staff were attacked. Even though other teams have returned to practice, Chennai is a little late to return to practice. That is why CSK is not getting enough time to prepare for the opening match on September 19.
According to Indian media reports, the BCCI wants to give Chennai some more time. Runner-up Chennai is scheduled to play champion Mumbai Indians but it is weak now. That is why the release of the IPL schedule is being delayed.
A BCCI official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said: “CSK is not in a position to play in the opening match of the season. We want to give Chennai Super Kings some time so that they can come out of this problem. The BCCI is delaying the release of the schedule for this reason.
