Best of Jofra Archer is yet to come

Best of Jofra Archer is yet to come, says Eoin Morgan

England’s limited-overs captain Eoin Morgan said Monday that Jofra Archer has proven to be an “X-factor” in his short run so far, but insisted that the best of the fast player is yet to come. Jofra Archer was recently rewarded with a central contract for Test and White Ball Cricket by the English and Wales Cricket Board (BCE) for his excellent performances at the ODI World Cup and the Ashes.

“I think it’s fantastic. Jofra (Archer) is very exciting to watch and bowl fast and has an X factor. You can play in any format of the game and any circumstance and any plan,” Eoin Morgan told reporters here on Monday.

“Every obstacle that gets in front of him overcomes it. We haven’t seen the best of him, and he still wants to learn all the time,” the England captain added.

Archer was England’s top player in his triumphant World Cup campaign at home. He then followed his World Cup performance by scalding 22 wickets to an average of 20.27 in the four ash tests against Australia.

Morgan also praised Ben Stokes’ heroics this summer, calling him an exceptional cricketer.

-Morgan about Ben Stokes-

Who would have thought after the final performance of the World Cup that took absolutely everything he could invent, on his own and we would win a game (third ash test) in Headingley. The tickets expose all the attributes you need to be a test hitter. It was exceptional,” Morgan said.

Ben Stokes, unaided, led England to a wicket win over Australia in the third ash test at Headingley with a 135-stroke match-winning run.

English skipper Morgan also stated that England now set their sights on next year’s World Twenty20 in Australia after fulfilling their dream of winning the ICC ODI World Cup.

Eoin Morgan said that We have 18 international T20 games from now on, and we’ll try to build a team that can win that tournament (World T20).

“We do (we have a chance to win), we came to India in 2016 and reached the final. We have a similar team during the World Cup in England this year. If we can build our momentum and gel together as one side, it will give us the best chance,” added the left-handed hitter.

Morgan said that like other teams, from now on his focus is on the World T20. “Next year is pretty simple for me, continue with both game formats (ODI and T20) as captain and the focus is on Australia’s T20 World Cup in November next year, and all our energies will devote to that,” the skipper said out.
