South Africa won the toss and elected to bowl first in the 5th match of Cricket World Cup 2019.

Match Summary:

Bangladesh started their World Cup 2019 in a Style as they won their first match of CWC19 by 21 runs against South Africa. South Africa lost their second match of the tournament.  Invited to bat first, Bangladesh scored 330-6, its highest score ever obtained by the ODI, surpassing its previous record of 329/6 against Pakistan in Dhaka in April 2015. It was only the fourth time that Bangladesh defeated South Africa in 22 ODI and the second time in the World Cup.

They significantly increased their runs in the last 10 overs and scored 86 runs to bring the total to over 300. Since the World Cup of 2015, Bangladesh has on average 66 runs between the 40th and 50th overs. Bangladesh’s stick performance is a testament to its steady progress since the last World Cup. Over the past four years, Bangladesh has played 18 sets of ODI and has won nine, including five consecutive home series against Pakistan, India, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Afghanistan, a home-based series between the Antilles and a tri-series in Ireland. The Antilles included, immediately before this tournament.

This victory means that Bangladesh is the only one of the four clubs in the sub-continent to have played so far to win their opening game. India will play its first game on Wednesday in Southampton, against South Africa, which has not yet scored points on the Board of this World Cup.
