Bangladesh Under-19 team to tour New Zealand

The Bangladesh under-19 team confirmed their tour of New Zealand, which promises to help them gain experience ahead of the ICC Under-19 World Cup next year. The team will play five ODI from September 29 to October 13, all at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval in Lincoln.

This is the first time a Bangladeshi team has toured New Zealand after the shooting at the Christchurch mosque in early March this year. It was the moment when the senior Bangladeshi team was in New Zealand for three ODI and three tests and had to abandon the final game in Christchurch due to the attack. The players were about 50 yards from the mosque when a gunman opened fire.

The tour first scheduled in April 2019 but cancelled by New Zealand cricket believing it would have been “insensitive and inappropriate” to have an age group touring the country in search of cricket.

Bangladesh comes from a good Under-19 Asian Cup campaign, where it reached the final but lost to India by a narrow margin of five races. From that squadron, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Shahin Alam and Minhazur Rahman have been excluded and replaced by Asadullah Hill Galib, Avishek Das, Shamim Hossain, while Hasan Morad is a new addition. Akbar Ali will continue to lead the team.

Bangladesh Under-19 Squad: Mahmudul Hasan, Tanzim Hasan, Avishek Das, Shamik Hossa Morad, Akbar Ali (capt), Tawhid Hridoy, Tanzid Hasan, Parvez Hossain, Shahadat Hossain, Rakibul Hasan, Asadullah Hill Galib, Shoriful Islam, Mrittunjoy Chowdhury.
