Babar Azam Shows No Interest in Captaincy
Pakistan’s top-order batsman Babar Azam said he has no interest in captaincy. Babar’s name is seen as a replacement for current skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed after Pakistan’s miserable performance at the World Cup 2019, which led to a violent backlash against the team. The right-handed batsman, however, said he did not expect a leadership role, but instead focused on scoring runs.
“I never really considered becoming captain of Pakistan. And in all honesty, all I could think about was playing for my country. I am not someone who aspires to be captain and I am more interested in goals for Pakistan”.
Babar believes Sarfaraz did a good job but said the final decision on the change of captain would be made by the PCB.
“The board will decide who the captain are and the players respect their choice. I think Sarfaraz Ahmed is doing well and doing a good job at the moment”.
