Babar Azam needs to establish himself as a match-winner
Former pacemaker Shoaib Akhtar has criticized the Pakistan team’s hitting and says Babar Azam needs to establish himself as match-winner following a poor show with the bat in the second inning against England at Old Trafford, after holding a 107-run lead.
Pakistan lost the event by three wickets after England wrapped the visitors’ hitting 169 in the second inning and chased the 277-run goal on day four.
Speedster on his youtube channel said that Babar has to come up with something good to become a match-winner.
“If you’re not building on a 107-run lead, no matter how big a hitter is, it’s no use. Babar has to come up with something good because you can’t make a name for yourself like that. You are a good player, but you have to establish yourself as a winner of the match, ”Shoaib said.
He also identified the mistakes, skipper Azhar Ali did it and failed to take advantage of Naseem Shah when Chris Woakes reached the fold in the final innings.
“I have no problem with Naseem Shah, but the captain should have used it well, showing an aggressive approach while throwing new batter Woakes,” he added.
“Excessive length bowling, no approach to the gorilla in the bowl, which could have created opportunities. We lost due to assault, “he said.
