Australia Vs Siri Lanka CWC19 Match 20 Result
Siri Lanka won the toss and elected to bowl first in the 20th match of World Cup 2019.
Australia claimed the first position on the points table where they beat Siri Lanka by 87 runs to get on the top. While batting first Australia posted a good total of 334 runs. Aron Finch 153 runs help them to post a handsome total for the opponents. Siri Lanka gets a great start and it was looking it to easy for the Siri Lankans to chase the target. But Siri Lanka lost the momentum and suddenly lost the couple of wickets which turn into a defeat.
Finch matched his best international performance in a day with a remarkable 153 and Steve Smith scored 73 runs as Australia scored an impressive 334-7. Needing a World Cup record race to earn a shocking victory, Sri Lanka got off to a good start thanks to a first 115-ticket partnership between captain Dimuth Karunaratne and captain Kusal Perera. But Perera went to 52 and when Karunaratne fell to 97, the match came back in Australia’s direction.
Starc was the catalyst, with a three-wicket wave in six balls, Australia finally sent Sri Lanka back for 247 thanks in large part to its 4-55 10-outs. Kane Richardson added three wickets as Australia won four of five group matches after beating Afghanistan, the West Indies and Pakistan. Their only defeat in the 10-team tournament was against India and their latest victory allows them to qualify well for a place in the semi-finals.
Sri Lanka, which has lost its last seven wickets for 42 runs, has won just one in five matches, a disappointing race that includes two eliminations. They are struggling to qualify for the semi-finals and they have only four matches left, a series of matches with the title contenders: England and India. Sri Lanka had briefly seemed capable of surpassing the World Cup pursuit by Ireland, who beat England 329 to 7 in 2011. Karunaratne missed his first century in the World Cup when he carelessly knocked Richardson over to Maxwell at one point.
That left Sri Lanka 186-3 and Pat Cummins then had Angelo Mathews overtaken by Alex Carey. This set the stage for Starc to turn the screw by sending Milinda Siriwardana, Thisara Perera and Kusal Mendis back in quick succession. Mendis’ unfortunate attempt to leave Starc reduced Sri Lanka to 222 to 7 and broke their resistance.
