Afghanistan VS West Indies CWC19 Match 42 Result

Toss:

West Indies won the toss and elected to bat first in the 42nd match of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

Match Summary:

Chris Gayle failed with the bat but struck with the ball as the West Indies just claimed their second win after crashing out of the World Cup 2019 against Afghanistan. The Caribbean scored 311 for six in their 50 outs in Leeds and although the Afghans fought a brave battle, they eventually lost 23 runs. Gayle, who will certainly play his last World Cup match at the age of 39, trapped Afghanistan’s top scorer, Ikram Alikhil lbw which has greatly dampened their hopes of victory.

Despite the victory, the two former Caribbean champions remain second in the last 10 teams. Afghanistan experienced periods of crisis in only its second World Cup – closing in on India and Pakistan – but is returning home with a disconcerting defeat out of nine. The West Indies, who broke 111 runs from the last 10 overs, had to thank Captain Holder and Nicholas Pooran for their acceleration after the strong contribution of Evin Lewis (58), the man of the match Shai Hope (77) and Shimron Hetmyer (39).

Gayle was overtaken by a low shot against Dawlat Zadran for only seven minutes and he still has 10 runs less than Brian Lara’s all-time record for the West Indies with 10,348 international runs in one day.

Man of the Match Award:

Shai Hope was awarded as man of the match award for his 77 runs.
